Sylvia Taylor Flippin is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. She was
valedictorian of her graduating class of Pearl High School in Nashville, Tennessee. She
furthered her education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Economics at Vanderbilt
University in Nashville. In addition, she holds a Master of Education degree from
Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, with a concentration in Administration and
Supervision.
Sylvia Taylor Flippin has served as First Lady at Springfield
Baptist Church, Greensboro, GA and Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Locust Grove, GA. Presently she serves as First Lady
at The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA. During her tenure at the church, she founded and organized
Voices of Aaron, Toastmasters International Club.
Currently, she teaches Mathematics at Westlake High School in
Atlanta, GA. For over ten years, Sylvia Flippin has taught in the Ministers Wives Division for the National Baptist
Congress of Christian Education and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Her father, the late
Reverend Moses Taylor, served as Pastor of Sylvan Street Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee for almost forty
years.
Sylvia Flippin has been married for
over thirty years to Dr. William E. Flippin
who is pastor of The Greater Piney Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Flippin,
Sr. is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of
Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary
in Chicago, Illinois.
Sylvia and Dr. Flippin are the
proud parents of three sons and a daughter. William, Jr.
is an ordained minister, a graduate of Morehouse College, Class of 1998
and a graduate of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) with a
Masters of Divinity degree. Recently, he received his Master of Theology
degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta,
Ga. William is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Lutheran Theological
Seminary in Chicago concentrating in Church History and Reformation
Studies. He is married to Kedra Phillips Flippin.
Richard (Ricky) Curtis, is a graduate of
Morehouse College, Class of 2001 and a graduate of Candler School of
Theology at Emory, with a Masters of Divinity degree, he is also an
ordained minister. For the past three summers, Richard has been the
Summer Academy Minister at Morehouse College. Pastor Richard Flippin now
serves as Assistant to Senior Pastor at The Greater Piney Grove
Baptist Church as the Director of Organization, Ministry Programs and
Projects. Continuing the heritage, Joseph Charles
Taylor, an ordained minister, is a recent
Cum Laude graduate of Morehouse College, Class of 2003, with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology. Joseph is currently
attending Wesley Theological Seminary with a full scholarship. Their
daughter, Sylvia Joi, is a high school student in the Fulton County
School System and sings in the Greater Piney Grove Youth Choir.
